Despite politcal unrest the show went on in Cairo to crown a chess champion in their World MS Day tournament. Four weeks before World MS Day the chess tournament began in public parks across the city. Due to security problems the remainder of the heats were played online and the two finalists came together for a nailbiting final on 8 June. Spectators were invited to join the fun by creating their own WMSD T-shirts. To launch the tournament and the 2012 campaign, MS Care chose a local song writer to create a song about living with MS. The song was recorded in both Arabic and English and was used to raise awareness of MS online. On 8 June a second event for people with…

Posted on June 15th, 2012

The MS society of Brazil organised a World MS Day (WMSD) street party. The party was held on a street called Alameda Marus, close to the Brazilian MS Society headquarters. The main goal of the event was to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis (MS).

Live music played to the public

This was the first time a public street party was held for WMSD. The aim was to raise awareness of MS amongst the public. General information about MS and its symptoms was available andmore than 500 information packs were distributed among the attendees.

A music tent was set up in the middle of the street. The tent included a large WMSD banner surrounded with lots of balloons. People living with MS, their friends and members of the public joined together as one.

Look Deeper: Signs of MS

robert

Posted on May 22nd, 2012

World MS Day (WMSD) 2012 is only one week away! To mark this we are releasing our third riddle entitled ‘Look Deeper’. We need everyone to share the riddle as widely as possible outside of their MS circle, with friends, family and colleagues, to ensure that as many people as possible become aware of the unique challenges of MS.

The riddle highlights that people with MS have varying symptoms. We want as many people as possible to know that MS comes in many different forms, that there is no exact set of symptoms that everyone experiences and that each person’s MS is different.

Many of the postcards uploaded to our ‘1000 faces of MS‘ wall recount these experiences. George Pepper says that, “the onset was all very sudden for me. After ruling out meningitis, the fear was then a brain tumour which led to an MRI scan.”

Max Lewis says that,

“in late 2005 when out at a restaurant, I went completely blind and people thought I was drunk. But I wasn’t, I don’t drink. Then, in 2006, after I fell out of bed, I got the shocking news that I had MS.”

“I was diagnosed with MS in September 2005. Prior to that I had many symptoms however no one put it all together,” says Mary Schneider.

“I was diagnosed with MS on October 27, 2010,” says Lee Domenico. “It was a bittersweet day for myself and my family. We finally had answer as to what was wrong with me for the past 10 years. No, I really didn’t want to have MS, but in the same breath, I also didn’t want to continue life thinking I was crazy,”

We still want to hear from those of you who have not yet told us what living with MS means to you to become one of the “1000 faces of MS” and tell the world your story.

A Question of Age

robert

Posted on May 16th, 2012

With two weeks to go until World MS Day (WMSD) 2012, we are revealing our second riddle. The riddle is a video message which helps viewers to unfold an answer to a mystery. Watch the video below to see if you can work out the answer for this week’s riddle.

This riddle highlights that the most common time to be diagnosed with MS is between the ages of 25 to 31.

This is also the time that many people undergo major life changing events such as meeting life partners and starting a family, moving home or starting a career. These stressful situations can disguise the diagnosis of MS due to confusion with other health issues such as depression, fatigue or stress.

Share this video on Facebook and Twitter and help others to uncover the mystery of WMSD 2012.
