Switzerland jumped for joy

World MS Day was a huge success in Switzerland this year. The MS Society of Switzerland organised a nationwide skipping event involving 10,000 people living with MS and the Swiss public. Multiple sclerosis (MS) awareness stalls were set up in eleven cities including; Basel, Biel, Buchs SG, Chur, Fribourg, Lausanne, Lugano, Sion, Steffisburg, Train and Zurich. These stalls were staffed by people with expert knowledge of MS who offered educational pamphlets about MS to the public.

Every Step Counts

Every Step Counts

The skipping event encouraged people to participate in unified symbolic action against MS. Through skipping in public people managed to raise nationwide awareness about MS. This fun activity was aimed at encouraging people living with MS to fight the symptoms of the disease. The event motto was ‘Every Step Counts – helping people with MS to persevere.’

WMSD in Switzerland involved people of different ages and backgrounds. Most importantly this event was a fun way of raising MS awareness. Every jump really did count in the end, the total of jumps made by the members of the public was 71, 211. Take a look at the photo gallery of the WMSD 2012 skipping event in Switzerland.

On the 25th May in Switzerland, AC Bellizona will play its last game of the super league against Grasshopper Club Zurich. To coincide with World MS Day celebrations, the players of both teams will begin the game wearing t-shirts with the slogan “giving up is not an option for people with MS: help them to keep going”. While the players warm up in these t-shirts, there will be information given over the speaker system about MS and World MS Day.
