Introducing Anna

Leni

Posted on May 8th, 2013

Hello!

My name is Anna Kodzhayeva. I come from the city of Krasnodar, Russia. I am 26, and I’ve had MS for 18 years. I was diagnosed when I was 8, so I’ve had it for almost all my life. This is why I have experienced almost all the symptoms of the disease.

I made it clear for myself that it is important you should never stop, whatever happens. That is, my motto is ‘He who goes will manage the road.’ It means whatever the circumstances, you must get up and move on.

Another my motto is that ‘One should have a dream and go for it. If you cannot go, crawl to it. If you cannot crawl, face the direction of your dream, though lying on the ground.’ These mottos help me go on, overcome barriers and what is on my way.

Anna

Anna, 26, Russia

Anna was diagnosed with MS when she was eight. Coming terms with her diagnosis took some time, but Anna managed to get her confidence back:

“Now I am confident that I am in no way worse than anybody else. I am sure I will achieve all I want in life! I know I am strong enough for this. I know there are people around who will come to help if I fall.”

Anna’s motto for identity is:

What’s your motto?

Diogo

Diogo, 23, Portugal

Diogo was diagnosed with MS at age 19. He believes getting on with life after being diagnosed is all about having a positive attitude.

I cope the best way I can find possible. I make my days worthwhile. It is necessary to know how to live and do everything that makes us happy. It is very important to live with principles, planning and discipline; but above all to live. I am learning to LIVE with those three concepts.

Diogo’s motto for identity is:

What’s your motto?

Marching for the rights of persons with disabilities in Madrid, Spain EME join the Disability movement to mark the International Day for Persons with Disabilities Yesterday more than 90 thousand disability activists took to the streets of Madrid to demonstrate against the ever reducing rights of disabled persons in Spain.   Exacerbated by the financial crisis and policy decisions in many strategic areas, people with MS and other disabling conditions feel that their rights to inclusion and accessability are being negatively affected.   The disability movement  in Spain came together to produce an advocacy strategy that seeks to create a stronger voice for people with disablities and to lobby for the inclusion of people with disabilities in key policies and  goverment decisions. Russian MS television special

‘Live Healthy’ received an unprecedented response from the Russian audience. More than 3,000 viewers interacted with the program’s social media, Channel One Russia received more than 7000 phone calls regarding MS and Perviy received more than 200 letters about the feature.

The ARMSS wanted to raise awareness of the symptoms of MS. The society used this year’s WMSD theme Living with MS to draw attention to the many issues faced by people with this disease. Doctors were encouraged through the television campaign to diagnose MS cases as soon as possible.

Other events in Russia included; conferences, round table meetings, working sessions and excursions for people living with MS. Many organisations were involved in raising WMSD awareness including the; All-Russian Patients Union, Moscow multiple sclerosis society, Organisation for assistance to people with mucoviscidosis, All-Russian Haemophilia Society, Local government and businesses.
