Despite politcal unrest the show went on in Cairo to crown a chess champion in their World MS Day tournament. Four weeks before World MS Day the chess tournament began in public parks across the city. Due to security problems the remainder of the heats were played online and the two finalists came together for a nailbiting final on 8 June. Spectators were invited to join the fun by creating their own WMSD T-shirts. To launch the tournament and the 2012 campaign, MS Care chose a local song writer to create a song about living with MS. Embracing the party spirit in Brazil

The MS society of Brazil organised a World MS Day (WMSD) street party. The party was held on a street called Alameda Marus, close to the Brazilian MS Society headquarters. The main goal of the event was to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis (MS).

Live music played to the public

This was the first time a public street party was held for WMSD. The aim was to raise awareness of MS amongst the public. General information about MS and its symptoms was available andmore than 500 information packs were distributed among the attendees.

A music tent was set up in the middle of the street. The tent included a large WMSD banner surrounded with lots of balloons. People living with MS, their friends and members of the public joined together as one.

The Audience gathered to eat food and hear beautiful live music. Beatles cover band the Zoom Beatles provided a feel-good atmosphere. A band called Dudu Franҫa performed songs with a special guest singer.  Everyone enjoyed raising awareness about MS while listening to music and dancing in the street.

Never Down Band-‘Struggle’

The Never Down Band from Mansoura, Egypt have release two songs for World MS Day (WMSD) 2012 to spread awareness. The first song titled ‘Struggle‘ deals with the struggle of living with multiple sclerosis (MS) and is performed by Never Down Band rapper, Ahmed Adel. The uplifting lyrics are from a inspirational  poem written by Reem Hassan Samaha, a girl living with MS. The video for ‘Struggle’ is sponsored by the Egyptian MS Care society. Have a listen to ‘Struggle’ below.



Never Down Band have also recorded an Arabic song for WMSD 2012 called ‘Yom Mn Ba’D Yom’ or ‘Day After A day’. This second song begins with a beautiful poem about MS and then turns into a heartfelt Ballad sung by group member Mohamed El Dreny. Please have a listen to ‘Yom Mn Ba’D Yom’ below;

Noah “40” Shebib: Music producer living with MS

Noah Shebib, known as “40”, is a Canadian hip-hop producer who lives with multiple sclerosis (MS). He was diagnosed with MS on his 22nd birthday after experiencing strange feelings in his legs: “hot was cold and cold was hot”, he said. Without having pervious knowledge of MS or its symptoms, Shebib thought that MS “sounded intimidating”. He appeared in the ‘Goosebumps’ series and the Canadian Gemini award winning ‘Wind at My Back’.
