Dance groups at San Pedro Sula Mall in Honduras for WMSD 2012

On the 26th May FEMA (“Fundacion Esclerosis Multiple Amor “, The Honduran Multiple Sclerosis Foundation) held an event at the City Mall, in San Pedro Sula to celebrate World MS Day. Throughout the day there were performances from various dance groups, including Grupo Sectur and Oneyda de America and Eliu Perez, who is a patient that has received support from the foundation, gave his testimony. Medical Lectures take place for WMSD 2012 in Iraq

The Baghdad MS clinic and teaching hospital in Iraq held three lectures on World MS Day 2012. Around 200 people attended the lectures. The audience included people with multiple sclerosis and their families. Neurologists from the MS clinic provided information about MS and MS treatments. A nurse from the Clinic talked about rehabilitation and healthy living options. Three people living with MS shared their experiences with the audience. During the event the attendees were invited to lunch. The event included a question and answer sessions. A stand was available with leaflets and other informative material. Giant puppets raise MS awareness in Delhi

On World MS Day (WMSD) the Delhi Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) presented a ‘Living with MS’ programme at Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium. There were over 150 attendees including people living with MS and their families. The conference was chaired by doctors and neurological consultants. Dr. Dashpreet helped raise awareness by answering questions from the audience about multiple sclerosis (MS).

Later that day a WMSD puppet show was hosted among shoppers at the Select City Walk Mall. The show featured four giant puppets; two birds, a man and a woman. The puppets were used to narrate a story about living with MS. The costumes used in the show were made out of Indian silk.

After the puppet show finished the public danced to the live music. This event received attention in several newspapers including the; Deccan Herald, Hindustan Times, Indian Express, Hindu and Pioneer. WMSD Pamphlets were handed out to shoppers in the mall. Bollywood film star Sushma Seth excited the crowd with a special WMSD appearance. The MSSI Committee members and CEO Mr Ram raised awareness by speaking to the public about MS.

Noah “40” Shebib: Music producer living with MS

Noah Shebib, known as “40”, is a Canadian hip-hop producer who lives with multiple sclerosis (MS). He was diagnosed with MS on his 22nd birthday after experiencing strange feelings in his legs: “hot was cold and cold was hot”, he said. Without having pervious knowledge of MS or its symptoms, Shebib thought that MS “sounded intimidating”. He appeared in the ‘Goosebumps’ series and the Canadian Gemini award winning ‘Wind at My Back’. I hadn’t been living with MS for long, when I began to realise it didn’t play by rules. In fact, it seemed there weren’t many certainties at all. Sometimes this brought good news: the disease might not be very disabling and there could be good, stable periods. But there was no guarantee of this.
