This year for World MS Day the good people of South Korea decided to go that extra mile by staging a charity walk in aid of raising awareness for Multiple Sclerosis. The participants consisted of people with MS and there families plus many others who turned out to support the event. People with MS threw paper airplanes high into the sky; each with a wish to overcome the difficulties that come with living with MS. The event was arranged by the Korean Multiple Sclerosis Society in association with Merck Korea and was intended to address the ignorance and prejudice against the disease. The Korean Multiple Sclerosis Society’s event on the 28th May was a resounding success with over 150 people attending. The event in Hangang Park “I walk for MS” was organised to raise awareness of World MS Day and was covered by the national media in the form of television and newspaper coverage. Items such as scarves and stickers in the MS orange colour were handed out at the beginning of the day to all participants, who set out on the walk together at 2pm. The participants included people with MS, their family and friends, members of the public and health care providers. The Korean MS Society has arranged a walk along the Han River as part of their World MS Day celebrations. The walk starts at 2pm in Yeouido Hangang Park, on the 28th May, and will vary in distance from 50m to 2km. The flexibility in distance is to encourage absolutely everyone to get involved, as participants can choose how far they would like to walk depending on their mobility. Participants will be raising money for the Korean MS Society, and pharmaceutical company Merck Inc. will match the final donation total. The Korean MS Society rallied support to end MS in public awareness raising marches and stands in Seoul The Korean MS Society organised a day full of activities to mark World MS Day 2010. Public awareness raising was a priority with booths disseminating information and advice from medical staff set up around Seoul. Several press events took place to give people with MS the opportunity to reach out to others using their own experience of living with MS.
