EMUR march with others to improve accessibility for disabled persons in Uruguay

On Monday 3rd December 2012 disability rights activists in Montevideo, Uruguay walked from the University to the City Hall to raise awareness of accessibility issues faced by persons with disabilities in Uruguay. In the weeks leading up to the event representatives from organisations representing the interests of persons with disabilities in Uruguay worked together to draft a statement related to the rights of persons with disabilities.   This statement was read out to the City Mayor on the steps of City Hall and directed at key decision makers in Montevideo.   Disabled advocates who wanted to take part in the action waited at the steps of the City hall to greet those who had marched through the city. Reaching out to the Public in Stuttgart, Germany

To mark the International Day for Persons with Disabilities 2013 AMSEL took part in an event held at the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart. The event, which brought together organisations for disabled people in the area was held on Sunday 2nd December- one day ahead of the International Day.   The Mercedes Benz Museum ran a special programme of activities based around movement and dance. Highlights included: Wheelchair dance performances from the Ludwigsburg Dance Club and the opportunity for all visitors to get involved Segway experiences Special tours of the automobile museum including 15-minute ‘blind tours’ in the dark Demonstrations from service dogs An information booth on MS hosted by BLACKBIRD Showing of disability adjusted vehicles including wheelchairs and handcycles Visitors were invited to…

MS organisations join the Global Disability Movement

Marching for the rights of persons with disabilities in Madrid, Spain EME join the Disability movement to mark the International Day for Persons with Disabilities Yesterday more than 90 thousand disability activists took to the streets of Madrid to demonstrate against the ever reducing rights of disabled persons in Spain.   Exacerbated by the financial crisis and policy decisions in many strategic areas, people with MS and other disabling conditions feel that their rights to inclusion and accessability are being negatively affected.   The disability movement  in Spain came together to produce an advocacy strategy that seeks to create a stronger voice for people with disablities and to lobby for the inclusion of people with disabilities in key policies and  goverment decisions. 2 weeks to go…Sign the petition and join the global MS movement! On 3rd December 2011, the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, MSIF will present the petition for access to appropriate work to several key decision makers. This year marks 5 years since the adoption of the UN Convention on the rights of disabled persons. Since the introduction of the convention in 2009 106 countries have ratified the convention, and 63 have ratified the optional protocol, paving the way for many positive steps towards enabling people with disabilities around the world to live full lives, free from discrimination.
