World MS Day Celebrations in Egypt

On 20 May the Egyptian MS Care Society celebrated World MS Day (WMSD) and the Society’s first MS Day. Some 200 people with MS, their families, friends, volunteers and, in keeping with the WMSD theme of work, employers attended a full day of activities at the Canadian International College in Cairo. The day began with a series of inspiring MS films followed by lectures on new treatments including a talk on CCSVI. Participants had the opportunity to speak to Dream TV about how MS affects their lives; the role and importance of support groups like MS Care, the role of the government and the problems facing them regarding employment. MS Care in Egypt gets ready for WMSD

On Friday 20th May, MS Care’s World MS Day celebrations will take place at the Canadian International College in Cairo. Various activities will be taking place, including seminars, screening of WMSD movies and a presentation about the work of MS Care. Medical practitioners have been invited to attend, including Professor of Neurology Prof. Dr. Tarek El Menesi who has been invited to talk about recent developments in treatments. Professor of Interventional Radiology Prof. Dr. Ahmed Samy will also be talking about the pros and cons of CCVI treatment, and patients who have undergone this procedure will be encouraged to share their experiences. Raising awareness amongst the general public in Cairo

Egyptian volunteers hand out information and advice to the public in restaurants and cafes around the city. After World MS Day volunteers from the Egyptian MS Society wanted to raise awareness of MS and of the issues faced by those living with the disease in the community at large. They were given permission to hand out leaflets and answer questions in McDonalds restaurants around the city. Volunteers were also on hand in Cilantro cafes across the city. People with MS celebrate World MS Day in Egypt

Almost 200 people joined a day’s worth of seminars and discussion at the Canadian International College in Cairo to celebrate World MS Day 2010 A 4 hour planned activity turned into 8 hours when people living with MS, their friends and family, came together to join the global movement to end MS. At 12 p.m. private buses brought guests from their homes to the Canadian International College in Cairo for a dedicated event for MS patients and their families. 186 guests attended the event including several doctors specialising in the field of neurological diseases. T-shirts were distributed as a gift to participants and an outdoor lunch with the opportunity to socialise with new friends was the highlight of the day.
