Health and wellness event in Brussels on World MS Day

MS Support Action will mark World MS Day 2013 with a wellness event in Brussels, Belgium for people with MS. Singer Miss Autumn Leaves will perform after the event and comedian Iwein Segers is expected to attend. There will also be an area for young people with MS at the event. Family Day in Belgium on World MS Day

National Belgian MS League is organising a Family Day on MS Day 2013. They are hoping 600 people with MS and their families will attend the event in Chevetogne Park in Namur, Belgium. The League will also be holding a press conference. The Flemish MS Society is also organising a Family Day on 1 June with a second event to follow during Belgium MS Week in September. Belgium gets together in aid of MS

The MS Societies of the Federal and Regional entities of Belgium have each contributed major efforts for World MS Day 2012 by rolling out new websites and hosting events to also coincide with the 30th anniversary of the two regional MS societies. The total number of people with MS in Belgium is estimated to be 11,000. World MS Day will see the regional societies launch new websites in their respective languages with young people in mind. The Flemish MS society is launching a website for young people diagnosed with MS called “MS Jongeren” (MS Youth). Interactive Websites raise WMSD awareness in Belgium

Two new websites were launched by the Belgian MS Societies this year, with the aim of increasing awareness of MS amongst children and young adults. The first, which contains information on MS as well as news on activities and events, has been designed as a tool for young people to use themselves. They can upload their photos and videos, and talk to other young people with MS about the issues that affect them. MS Steunactie petitions the Minister of Health in Belgium

On the 25th May MS-Steunactie met with the Minister of Health in Belgium. The group (which translates as MS Action Group) presented Minister J.M. Delizée with a petition to change the way the law treats people with MS. The list of suggestions – which include things such as changing the difference in financial support for those living with relatives and those not, and people with MS being made eligible for a handicap parking card – was handed to the Minister by a group of delegates from the group (see below photograph).
