World MS Day in Lebanon

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Lebanon (NMSSL) celebrated World MS Day with a gathering of doctors, healthcare specialists and people with MS on the 20th May this year. The event was hosted at the Movenpick hotel in Beirut, and featured discussions between patients and practitioners about the treatment of MS. Dr. Bassem Yamout the president of the NMSSL opened the event with a welcoming speech and Mrs Maha Kassouf, head of the NMSSL social committee spoke about the importance of sharing experiences and working together. Members of the NMSSL board were also in attendance and included; Dr Nabil Akkawi, Dr Elie Assaf, Dr Nuhad Abou Zeid and Dr Hassan Abdullah. Tweet This Post Share on Facebook

Dance groups at San Pedro Sula Mall in Honduras for WMSD 2012

On the 26th May FEMA (“Fundacion Esclerosis Multiple Amor “, The Honduran Multiple Sclerosis Foundation) held an event at the City Mall, in San Pedro Sula to celebrate World MS Day. Throughout the day there were performances from various dance groups, including Grupo Sectur and Oneyda de America and Eliu Perez, who is a patient that has received support from the foundation, gave his testimony. Medical Lectures take place for WMSD 2012 in Iraq

The Baghdad MS clinic and teaching hospital in Iraq held three lectures on World MS Day 2012. Around 200 people attended the lectures. The audience included people with multiple sclerosis and their families. Neurologists from the MS clinic provided information about MS and MS treatments. A nurse from the Clinic talked about rehabilitation and healthy living options. Three people living with MS shared their experiences with the audience. During the event the attendees were invited to lunch. The event included a question and answer sessions. A stand was available with leaflets and other informative material. WMSD 2012 in Greece

A series of events took place over Greece throughout May this year to mark World MS Day in the Country. A stall was set up in the Mediterranean Cosmos shopping centre by the Greek MS Society (GMSS) from which information was distributed to passers-by over an 8 day period. As well as informing shoppers about the work of GMSS, WMSD banners were set up alongside a TV screen displaying the campaign messages and videos.

On the 29^th of May a musical evening was held, featuring traditional Greek music and attended by GMSS Members and friends.

A conference was held on the 30^th May and hosted by GMSS President, Dr. Anastasios Orologas, who welcomed 250 attendees in discussing scientific progress in the treatment of MS. The discussion centred around important topics such as recent advancements in MS treatment methods, stress factors in MS and the impact of nutrition in MS patients’ everyday lives.

The meeting concluded with a buffet at the underground hall of the Aristotle University congress centre where visitors had an opportunity to view the new “BmyEyes” photographic collection, which showcases work by artists with MS. A Street Party Marks MS Day 2012 in Brazil

In Brazil the Associação Brasileira de Esclerose Múltipla (ABEM) held their World MS Day activities this year in Alameda Maruás, São Paulo. The awareness raising event took the form of a street party, with a stall offerering refreshments and music from Brazilian singer Dudu França and Beatles tribute act Zoom Beatles. Volunteers distributed 500 packs containing information about MS and its symptoms, and participants included patients with MS.
