Kissing Goodbye to MS – WMSD Australia

Kirsty

Posted on August 9th, 2012

In Australia World MS Day was a resounding success, with hundreds of people taking part in activities across the whole country. MS Australia and MS Research Australia all held events during the month of May and on the day itself. The “Kiss Goodbye to MS” campaign, which is in its third year, encouraged supporters to wear bright red lipstick, wear red clothes, dye their hair red or wear badges and stickers. Events were varied, from meeting the Australian Women’s Basketball team at Parliament house on their way to the Olympics, cupcake stalls, selling merchandise and charity dinners such as that held by the Green Bean society, who got into the theme in a big way with a Kissing booth and helped to raise over…

Riding Down Under for World MS Day

robert

Posted on May 23rd, 2012

Kirsten Alderson is a fundraising development co-ordinator of the MS Society of South Australia & Northern Territory of Australia. Along with her husband and son they have been actively raising awareness of multiple sclerosis (MS). From the beginning of May, Kristen and her family have taken a local evening bike ride. This MS bike campaign will end World MS Day (WMSD). Kristen told us;

“The aim for us is to ride every day for the month of May – rain or shine. It’s coming into winter here in Adelaide so temperatures are getting a lot lower than we are used to. My husband and I both work full time so our rides during the week have to be after work…”

We got in contact with Kirsten through Twitter. Kirsten has been Tweeting photographs of her MS bike campaign online. The MS Society of SA & NT is part of MS Australia. MS Australia provides advice, support and tool for individuals who want to raise awareness in there region. Kristen said,

“The reason we chose to ride is simply to raise awareness about MS. Riding in the cold, as we have said many times before is nothing compared to what people have to go through living with MS.”

MS Australia is facilitating lots of interesting events to raise MS awareness including;

• RED PARTY in Hobart (26 May)
• KISS GOODBYE TO MS DINNER in Cronulla (29 May)
• KISS GOODBYE TO MS CUPCAKE STALL in Balaklava (30 May)

This week’s WMSD riddle asks everyone to ‘Look Deeper’ at the symptoms of MS. Through raising awareness about MS the quality of life of people with MS can be improved worldwide.

MS Australia is getting ready to kiss away MS on World MS day (WMSD) next. The Kiss Goodbye to MS campaign was a massive success last year so it has been continued for WMSD 2012. Kiss Goodbye to MS is raising money to prevent and treat the symptoms of MS, as well as to provide support and services for people with MS. So far, Kiss Goodbye to MS has raised more than AUS$198, 500 in donations for WMSD.

Kiss Goodbye to MS

MS Australia is made up of several MS societies which represent all the Australian states. Each society is running several events which coincide with the Kiss Goodbye to MS theme and WMSD. Some of the events include a Kiss Goodbye to MS dinner in Cronulla on 29 May and a Kiss Goodbye to MS cupcake stall in Balaklava, on 30 May. All the events leading up to WMSD are listed on the events page on the Kiss Goodbye to MS website.

With no cause or cure for MS, research into this disease is very important. MS Research Australia and people living with MS will benefit from the funds raised through the Kiss Goodbye to MS campaign. With a wealth of activities taking place for WMSD 2012, Australia is defiantly raising MS awareness in a big way this year.
