Algeria celebrated World MS Day 2012 on 24 May. The event was hosted at Mustapha University Hospital in Algiers. The multiple sclerosis (MS) team from the Department of Neurology joined forces with the radiology and immunology departments to raise awareness. The day was an opportunity for neurologists, doctors and people living with MS to learn more about the disease. Over 120 MS associates attended the event from organisations in Algiers, Setif and Sidi Bel Abbes. The day opened with talks on diagnosis and therapeutic management and included discussions on treatment management costs. On World MS Day (WMSD) the Delhi Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) presented a ‘Living with MS’ programme at Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium. There were over 150 attendees including people living with MS and their families. The conference was chaired by doctors and neurological consultants. Dr. Dashpreet helped raise awareness by answering questions from the audience about multiple sclerosis (MS).
Later that day a WMSD puppet show was hosted among shoppers at the Select City Walk Mall. The show featured four giant puppets; two birds, a man and a woman. The puppets were used to narrate a story about living with MS. The costumes used in the show were made out of Indian silk.
After the puppet show finished the public danced to the live music. This event received attention in several newspapers including the; Deccan Herald, Hindustan Times, Indian Express, Hindu and Pioneer. WMSD Pamphlets were handed out to shoppers in the mall. Bollywood film star Sushma Seth excited the crowd with a special WMSD appearance. The MSSI Committee members and CEO Mr Ram raised awareness by speaking to the public about MS.
The Bengaluru Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society India (MSSI) celebrated World MS Day (WMSD) 2012 at Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital in Bangalore. Over 150 people attended this event which was supported by Biogen Idec. Doctors and physiotherapists raised awareness and provided advice to people living with MS and their families.
The Benaluru Chapter organised a human chain to raise MS awareness and show solidarity to people with MS. A physiotherapy session was held followed by yoga therapy. The event lifted the spirits of the people in attendance.
The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada arranged for Niagara Falls and the CN Tower to be lit up with red lights to mark World MS Day this year. Red lights (red is the MS Society’s trademark colour) were beamed on the iconic landmarks to raise awareness of the day. This beautiful event was facilitated by; the Niagara Parks Commission, Niagara Falls Illumination Board and the CN Tower.
The spectacular show reached hundreds of people on the Canadian and American sides of the falls.
Canada has been promoting the MS Global Dinner Party for many years. This year a VIP dinner party was held at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. This event took place on World MS Day from 6-8pm. The evening featured live Caribbean music. Hot 103’s radio personality Ace Burpee hosted a fundraising auction and guests were guaranteed a 1 in 250 chance of winning a trip for two to Toronto for the Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival.
