Belgium gets together in aid of MS

The MS Societies of the Federal and Regional entities of Belgium have each contributed major efforts for World MS Day 2012 by rolling out new websites and hosting events to also coincide with the 30th anniversary of the two regional MS societies. The total number of people with MS in Belgium is estimated to be 11,000. World MS Day will see the regional societies launch new websites in their respective languages with young people in mind. The Flemish MS society is launching a website for young people diagnosed with MS called “MS Jongeren” (MS Youth). Germany walk in brains and trains for WMSD

On 30 May the AMSEL (Aktion Multiple Sklerose Erkrankter) chapter of the German MS society presented a walk-through model of the human brain at Stuttgart mainline station. Members of the public explored the interactive exhibit and learned about multiple sclerosis (MS). Professor Horst Wietholter was interviewed about the exhibit and MS.

Spain gets WMSD message out nationwide

On World MS Day 2012, across Spain, the general public are being informed about MS, thanks to the efforts of the Spanish MS society EME. One of television’s major channels featured WMSD on its morning news bulletin, as well as the second national newspaper, El Mundo. Yesterday, a documentary, featuring with three Spanish people living with MS was broadcast on national television. EME also handed the Spanish Parliament a manifesto for people with MS, outlining the most important policy steps which need to be taken. Ireland throws tea parties for WMSD

All over the Emerald Isle, the MS Society of Ireland has encouraged the hosting of fundraising tea parties to raise funds and awareness for MS. The organisation, with the help of McVitie’s Digestives and celebrity chef and author, Clodagh McKenna, is helping people to organise their own tea parties in aid of World MS Day. The first party took place this morning at the Montessori Education Centre in the capital, Dublin, hosted by Ms McKenna. “I’m supporting McVitie’s Digestives Tea Party as I know first hand how MS can impact a family,” Clodagh said. “I also know how to bake a good biscuit so I’ll be helping to raise funds for people with MS in the coming weeks.” Find out more Tweet…

Baltic nations go all out for WMSD

The Lithuanian MS society has the ambitious aim that every citizen in this four million-strong nation will hear about MS for World MS Day. To this end, LISS has embarked on a media blitz in the country with a report on the national MS situation appearing in national and regional press and internet. Besides this, a popular national TV programme “Pulsas” is showing a documentary on MS and the morning TV programme with the largest audience, featured local MS specialists and people living with MS. Eminent Lithuanian doctors and representatives of MS centres have also been writing articles and producing video clips on MS and a national conference was also held last week at the Vilnius University Hospital.
