World MS Day report from Australia

2014 Access
In Australia the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition created videos to show their support for World MS Day.

MS Australia hosted an event with the Parliamentary Friends of MS at Parliament House in Canberra. MS Australia staff, Board members and national advocates met with various parliamentarians to discuss issues like planned increases to out of pocket health costs for people with MS and possible changes to the Disability Support Pension for people aged under 35.

Kiss Goodbye to MS

MS Research Australia’s flagship campaign continued to receive some great coverage and support throughout May. On World MS Day their flagship event was a special ‘flash mob’ which was broadcast on Sunrise. Here is the link to the Kiss Goodbye to MS Flash Mob

MS ACT/NSW/VIC officially unveiled their highly acclaimed ‘Seeing MS’ photographs at a public exhibition at Sun Studios in Sydney. The campaign has received global recognition and some fantastic exposure.

MS Queensland

Iconic buildings around Queensland were bathed in red to support Kiss Goodbye to MS and World MS Day this year and there were several inspirational fundraisers who worked tirelessly throughout the month of May to raise funds to help the Kiss Goodbye to MS cause.

MS Queensland also held a number of activities including a staff World MS Day celebration. Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale, an MS Queensland Ambassador, held a Living Positively luncheon with other inspiring people living with MS who shared their story with MS Queensland. The annual MS SA/NT ‘Choice Awards’ were also presented at a special ceremony on World MS Day.

MS Tasmania

MS Tasmania supported the Kiss Goodbye to MS campaign and this year their campaign culminated with the lighting of the iconic ‘Wrest Point Tower’ overlooking the Derwent in Hobart.
